5 Foods That Harm The Kidneys

Start Reading

1) Processed meats

These processed meats are particularly dangerous to kidney health since they are likely to include high levels of salt as well as animal-derived protein.

Excess sodium intake above 2300 milligrams (mg) per day on a regular basis promotes a diet that may raise blood pressure, putting additional strain on the kidneys.

2) Soups

It is not uncommon for handmade soups to contain more than 800 mg of sodium per cup of beef, chicken, or vegetable stock.

It's possible to make a salt-free soup base out of vegetable scraps and herbs and spices, but it may be better to avoid soups entirely.

3) Frozen Pizza

White bread crust, high salt tomato sauce, high fat cheese, and processed meat like sausage or pepperoni are all common ingredients of it.

On your next frozen pizza container, you may be shocked to see quadruple-digit sodium and saturated fat.

4) Fried Potatoes

If you're a fan of French fries, hash browns, potato chips, or potato pancakes, you're not doing your kidneys any favors by eating these items.

Potatoes are also high in potassium, which is a mineral that people with CKD stage 3A or later stages of kidney failure are often told to keep an eye on.

5) Soy Sauce

Soy sauce and tamari are high-sodium condiments. These goods have 950 milligrams of sodium per one-tablespoon serving, approximately half the DV.

Look for low-sodium alternatives to soy sauce in your recipe, such as mushrooms, tomato paste, nutritional yeast, or flavored vinegar.
